Back to winning ways

Villarreal’s Juvenil A return to the Mini Estadi with the clear objective of getting back to winning ways and turning around their recent run of results. The Yellow Academy side, currently sitting third in the table, six points behind Levante UD, will be looking to bounce back from two narrow defeats against UCAM Murcia (0-1) and Murcia Promises (2-1). Taking all three points at home is crucial if the team are to remain firmly in the thrilling title race.

Awaiting them will be an Albacete Balompié side who will not make things easy. The Mancha-based team arrive at the Ciudad Deportiva José Manuel Llaneza in seventh place and in high spirits after a convincing victory last time out against Patacona CF (2-0). It promises to be a highly demanding clash in the División de Honor, where Villarreal’s young talents will need to deliver their best performance to keep the win in Vila-real.

1,500 points of history in LALIGA https://villarrealcf.es/en/1500-points-of-history-in-laliga/ Mon, 13 Apr 2026 11:42:23 +0000 https://villarrealcf.es/1-500-puntos-de-historia-en-primera-division/ Villarreal CF celebrate a historic milestone crowned by 26 seasons of work in Spanish football’s top flight

Villarreal CF reached a landmark and historic achievement this Sunday. With the victory secured at San Mamés against Athletic Club (1-2) on Matchday 31 of LALIGA EA Sports, the Yellow Submarine reached 1,500 points in LALIGA. A figure that symbolises decades of effort and consistency, and that cements the club as one of the great contemporary forces in LALIGA.

Consistency achieved by very few

What makes this achievement even more remarkable is the time it has taken to reach it. Since their historic debut in the top flight in the 1998/99 season, under the leadership of Fernando Roig just one year after he took over the club, Villarreal have needed 26 seasons in the elite to reach such a symbolic total, with the only exception being the 2012/13 campaign in the second division following the painful relegation of 2012. Just one season outside LaLiga in almost three decades. The resulting average speaks for itself: 57.7 points per season, a record that confirms the Submarine as one of the most consistent teams in LaLiga’s recent history.

Villarreal, 15th in the all-time standings

Over their 26 seasons in LaLiga, the Yellow Submarine have established themselves in an impressive 15th position in the all-time standings. Villarreal have accumulated a total of 1,500 points from the 981 matches played in the top tier of Spanish football.

Their record stands at 415 wins, 255 draws and 311 defeats. They have scored 1,435 goals and conceded 1,213, resulting in a highly positive goal difference of +222, surpassed only by Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atlético, Athletic, Valencia and Sevilla among the 63 teams that have competed at some point in the history of LaLiga.

The historic benchmark of the runners-up finish (2007/08)

Looking back at Villarreal’s points tally in LaLiga, it is impossible not to stop at the 2007/08 season. That campaign, with Manuel Pellegrini on the bench and players such as Giuseppe Rossi, Diego Forlán and Marcos Senna in the squad, saw Villarreal enjoy the finest league season in their history, finishing with 77 points — just eight behind champions Real Madrid and ten clear of third-placed FC Barcelona. An unforgettable season that marked the club’s highest point in LaLiga and remains the golden benchmark in Villarreal history.

A present that inspires dreams

Rather than living off past success, the team are flying this season. With the three points earned yesterday in Bilbao, the Yellows have strengthened their grip on third place, moving up to 61 points with seven matchdays still to play. If they maintain this outstanding pace, Marcelino García Toral’s side will not only take a giant step towards Champions League qualification, but are also on course to post one of the best points totals in the club’s entire history.

Nerea Pérez will continue to defend the Yellow shirt https://villarrealcf.es/en/nerea-perez-will-continue-to-defend-the-yellow-shirt/ Mon, 13 Apr 2026 10:01:16 +0000 https://villarrealcf.es/nerea-perez-seguira-defendiendo-la-camiseta-grogueta/ The Alicante-born player renews her commitment to Villarreal and will continue her journey in yellow

Villarreal CF and Nerea Pérez Machado (11/01/1994, Benidorm, Alicante) have reached an agreement for the renewal of the Alicante-born footballer, who will continue to defend the Yellow shirt next season. In this way, the club secures the presence of one of its key figures both on and off the pitch.

A ‘centurion’ and undisputed player

Since making her debut in the 21/22 season, the Alicante-born player has made 137 official appearances for the Submarine (128 league matches and nine Copa de la Reina games). Remarkable figures that demonstrate that, season after season, and regardless of the division, her name is always a guarantee on the pitch.

In addition to her impeccable career as a Yellow, it is worth noting that the Alicante-born player has been an international for Spain at U17 and U19 level, winning the bronze medal at the Trinidad and Tobago World Cup and the silver medal at the European Championship in Turkey.

Villarreal roar at San Mamés (1-2) https://villarrealcf.es/en/villarreal-roar-at-san-mames-1-2/ Sun, 12 Apr 2026 17:55:42 +0000 https://villarrealcf.es/el-villarreal-ruge-en-san-mames-1-2/ With style and character, the Submarine defeat Athletic to claim a highly prestigious away victory

This Villarreal side is one of the best in the club’s history and proved it at San Mamés (1-2). The Yellow Submarine defeated Athletic Club convincingly thanks to goals from Cardona and Alfon in the first half. The hosts, despite pulling one back and sparking hope through Guruzeta late on, ultimately ended the match empty-handed.

Beyond the prestige of winning at San Mamés, where the Yellows had not prevailed since 2018, the victory in Bilbao gives the Submarine a major boost in the race for the Champions League, extending their lead over their closest challengers, Atlético Madrid and Real Betis, who now trail by four and 16 points respectively.

With the vintage aesthetic of the retro matchday and an old-school atmosphere, Villarreal faced Athletic Club at one of the great temples of Spanish football. Dressed in spectacular retro kits, both the Yellows and the Red and Whites were eager to put on an attractive display worthy of such a special occasion.

Marcelino’s side arrived in Bilbao sitting in a privileged third position, despite a recent defeat against Girona at Montilivi (1-0). At La Catedral, the Yellows set themselves the goal of improving their away form and securing their first victory as visitors in the second half of the season. Achieving that would represent a statement of intent in the Champions League race, following defeats for Atlético Madrid and RC Celta, and draws for Real Betis and Real Sociedad.

The home side approached the match in a much more difficult situation. Valverde’s team, who also competed in the Champions League this season, were lying eleventh in the table, having managed just one win in their last five league matches.

To win at San Mamés, Marcelino made several changes to the starting line-up. Cardona, Buchanan, Oluwaseyi and Alfon all came in from the start, having not featured in the previous match at Montilivi. The game began with plenty of balance and mutual respect between both sides.

A flawless transition for the opening goal

Villarreal broke the deadlock in the 26th minute. Marcelino’s men launched an excellent transition, with a through ball for Tani Oluwaseyi, who controlled the ball and laid it off to Cardona, arriving from deep. The Catalan wing-back showed great composure to lift the ball over the goalkeeper with a delicate chip and make it 0-1.

After the opener, the Submarine felt very comfortable in the match. They controlled the game, held onto their advantage and kept the Basque side at bay, while finding clarity and danger on the break.

Cleverness and belief to score the second at San Mamés

In first-half stoppage time, Alfon showed great determination by chasing a long ball in behind Athletic’s defence. Despite Lekue having the advantage, the winger pressed aggressively, stole the ball from the defender and finished calmly past Unai Simón at the near post. A reward for persistence and a 0-2 lead before the break.

At the start of the second half, Athletic pushed forward in search of a way back into the game, which allowed Villarreal more space to counter-attack. Before the 50th minute, Tajon Buchanan came close to making it 0-3, but the Canadian was denied by Unai Simón in a one-on-one after receiving a perfectly weighted through ball from Gueye in a move that had also involved Gerard and Oluwaseyi.

In those moments, Marcelino’s side looked to put the game to bed, while Athletic continued to press high, driven on by their supporters. Despite their efforts, Valverde’s men struggled to create clear chances. After the hour mark, only a header from Laporte at a corner forced Luiz Júnior into a routine save.

Late on, a long-range effort from Mikautadze almost caught Unai Simón out. The Georgian attempted his luck from near the halfway line after intercepting a misplaced pass from Laporte, with the ball narrowly flying over the crossbar.

Guruzeta pulls one back late on

In the 83rd minute, Athletic Club found a goal that brought them back into the contest. Guruzeta made it 1-2 by getting on the end of a cross from Yuri on the left. Before the 90th minute, Nico Pepe found the net, but the goal was ruled out for offside.

In the end, Villarreal saw out the result and claimed a huge three points at La Catedral.

Marcelino: “It has great merit and it’s very difficult to win at San Mamés” https://villarrealcf.es/en/marcelino-it-has-great-merit-and-its-very-difficult-to-win-at-san-mames/ Sun, 12 Apr 2026 17:20:00 +0000 https://villarrealcf.es/marcelino-tiene-mucho-merito-y-es-muy-dificil-ganar-en-este-campo/ The Asturian coach praised the mindset with which Villarreal approached the match against Athletic Club

Villarreal CF head coach Marcelino García Toral analysed his side’s important victory over Athletic Club (1-2), corresponding to Matchday 31 of LALIGA EA Sports, played at San Mamés.

“We played a great game. A very good first half, with effectiveness and intensity. The mindset was very positive in a very difficult match. I congratulate the team. All the players, for giving everything to win here. It’s a very tough ground, where Villarreal haven’t won many times. I thank the team for their effort and hard work,” said the Yellow Submarine coach.

Along the same lines, Marcelino highlighted the team’s effectiveness, which proved decisive in winning at San Mamés: “With effectiveness, you win matches. And today we had that dose of effectiveness and a bit of luck. Especially from the 35th minute onwards. They had a couple of chances and then we scored the second just before half-time. At the start of the second half, they pushed harder without losing sight of the game, but we even had chances to kill it off on the counter-attack. We played a very complete match, showing composure and efficiency, and thanks to that we take away three very important points.”

Finally, the Asturian coach expressed his excitement about the possibility of fighting for third place: “With the mindset we showed today, we can be third. But it’s not easy. There are still matches to play and consistency is key. Winning at this stadium has great merit and, in general, so does the season we’re having. What I do believe is that the Champions League is now very close, and securing it again was one of our objectives. It would be historic, because the club has never achieved it before.”

Masterclass at the Mini Estadi (4-0) https://villarrealcf.es/en/cronica-villarreal-b-algeciras-primera-rfef-j32-2526/ Sun, 12 Apr 2026 09:53:16 +0000 https://villarrealcf.es/cronica-villarreal-b-algeciras-primera-rfef-j32-2526/ Villarreal B cruise to a convincing win over Algeciras in an outstanding team performance from David Albelda’s side

Villarreal B comfortably beat Algeciras at the Mini Estadi (4-0) in a match where the Yellows operated like a perfectly oiled machine in every department to secure three valuable points, with a brace from Gaitán and goals from Albert García and Etienne Eto’o. With the win, David Albelda’s side remain in the play-off places.

The match had barely kicked off when it swung in Villarreal B’s favour. In the 2nd minute, Nizar made a surging run into the box, dribbling past several defenders in a superb individual move before being brought down. Albert García reacted quickest to the loose ball and slotted home to make it 1-0.

Following the opening goal, the visitors tried to respond and created a couple of good chances, but Villarreal B stayed compact and organised to keep a clean sheet.

The second goal came just two minutes after the restart. Nizar attacked down the flank and, after a shot from a tight angle, the ball fell to Gaitán, who produced a brilliant touch to shift it onto his other foot before finishing first time past the visiting goalkeeper.

Ten minutes later, in the 57th minute, Eto’o made it three by finishing with great composure in a one-on-one after a superb through ball from Albert García. There was still time for one more. In the 67th minute, following a fine attacking move, Albert García delivered a cross into the box that Hugo López cleverly dummied, allowing Gaitán to score his second of the match with ease.

Villarreal B’s next match will be on Sunday 19th April against Alcorcón (4pm) at the Estadio de Santo Domingo in Matchday 33 of Primera Federación Group II.
